If you remember the eighties at all, then you no doubt remember the mullet hairstyle as well. Business in the front, party in the back - who could forget that? Believe it or not, the mullet is gradually reemerging as a popular hairstyle. Who would have thought, right? The only problem here is that for as many good things as there are about this particular style, there are an equal number of really horrendous aspects.

It has got to be said that the mullet never stopped being popular down south. It is a time honored and often ridiculed tradition down there. Thus it is with great surprise that we see the mullet emerging in Hollywood, of all places. Britney Spears' former beau is just one of the many celebrities known to sport the look.

Some of you may not be entirely aware of what this well known hairstyle actually looks like. "Business in the front, party in the back," only goes so far as an explanation, after all. However, that is the catch phrase for a reason. The mullet consists of a short, almost conservative look in the front, while the hair in the back is left to grow long. Quite often, the sides are cropped close as well, or even shaven.

That is why the aforementioned catch phrase was used to describe this particular hairstyle. The front is very conservative, so you cannot do much with it in the way of styling. However, since the back is left quite long, there are tons of options when it comes to styling it.

Ponytails are thus a popular option with the mullet. People with this hairstyle often braid the back of their hair as well. This is sometimes known as a rat tail. For such an aged style, it really is quite versatile when you stop to think about it.

Perhaps the best thing about this style is the upkeep - or, rather, the lack thereof. You do not have to do much with it. It needs little to no care. Some gel, a ponytail, a little braiding, and you are ready for the day!

Contrary to popular belief, men are not the only people who can carry off the mullet. Back in the day, many women wanted this style. As it reemerges, the same is still true. Even kids and teenagers can have it done! So hey, why not flashback to the eighties and ask for a mullet the next time you need a haircut?
